Wingspan MCP

Connect your AI assistant to Wingspan and get contractor onboarding and payment work done without switching apps.

Connect an AI client to Wingspan so it can look up contractor and payment records and create draft payment work under your existing Wingspan permissions.

Connect the MCP server

Use the Wingspan MCP server URL with an AI client that supports remote MCP servers over OAuth:

AuthorizationOAuth in your browser

For connection steps, see Set up the Wingspan MCP.

Access and permissions

The MCP connection acts as your Wingspan sign-in and grants no additional access. If you cannot view a record in the Wingspan app, the assistant cannot view it through MCP.

Authorization is granted for a limited period and renews automatically while the connection remains valid. Tools can take an optional accountId when you need to work in a child Account instead of the Account you signed in with.

MCP does not support actions that require an additional identity challenge. These include paying payables or invoices, transferring funds between Accounts, and creating or rotating API keys.

What MCP can and cannot do

The MCP tools can read contractor, requirement, payable, and payroll-preview data. They can also create contractors, create draft payables, and open draft payables.

The tools cannot:

  • Move money, fund payments, or transfer funds.
  • Approve or pay a payable. create_payables creates a draft that the contractor cannot see. open_payables releases that draft so the contractor can see it; approve and pay it in the Wingspan app.
  • Configure your Account, including engagements, groups, worksites, custom fields, rate cards, requirement definitions, or requirement reviews.
  • Start a payroll run, choose a funding source, manage invoices, or manage accounting integrations.

See Wingspan MCP tools for the complete tool list.

Data and privacy

Tools return the contractor data available in your Wingspan screens, such as names, email addresses, and company names. They do not return bank-account numbers, card numbers, phone numbers, or internal notes.

Wingspan controls the data each tool returns and who can access the tools. Your AI client provider controls how it stores, logs, or uses answers after it receives them. Review your AI provider's terms before connecting an Account that can access contractor data.

FAQ

❓Can an assistant pay anyone?

No. Paying a payable or invoice, transferring funds between Accounts, creating or rotating an API key, and changing Account access require an additional identity challenge that you cannot complete in a chat conversation.

❓What happens when the assistant creates a payment?

It creates a draft payable that the contractor cannot see and that has no payment scheduled. open_payables releases the draft. Approve and pay the payable in the Wingspan app.

❓Does the assistant see more than I do?

No. The connection uses your Wingspan sign-in and can access only the records you can access.

❓Can contractors use MCP to check their own payments?

No. MCP supports the company that pays contractors. Contractors use their own Wingspan Account to review their payments.

❓Can I use MCP across child Accounts?

Yes. Tools can take an optional accountId for a child Account you can access. Get the ID from who_am_i rather than guessing it.
