What’s New for 2025

Updates to Wingspan Tax Filing and Contractor Management

As we prepare for the 2025 tax filing season, Wingspan is introducing several updates designed to enhance contractor management and streamline the filing process. Highlights include:

1. 1099-MISC (Box 6) Filing Support

Payers can now choose between filing 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC forms within Wingspan. 1099-MISC filings are supported for Box 6: Medical and health care payments. When you select 1099-MISC in filing settings, Wingspan guides you through selecting Box 6 so payments are reported correctly.

2. Shift from Tax Profiles to Contractor Profiles

Contractor onboarding and tax management are unified on the contractor profile. Updates to payer-provided tax information and invitations to contractors are now managed directly from the contractor record, simplifying collaboration across teams.

3. Expanded T4A Filing for Canadian Contractors

T4A filing remains available for Canadian contractors. Payers can download an XML data file for electronic submission to the CRA, with coverage for Box 048 (Fees for Services) when payments exceed CAD 500.

4. Enhanced Security for Contractors Without Tax Information

Contractors who have not provided tax information in Wingspan will receive their 1099s by mail. This protects sensitive data and reduces the risk of filing with inaccurate payer-provided information.

5. Improved Contractor Preferences and Updates

Contractors can now manage their delivery preferences and email address after confirming tax information. The guided update flow ensures that changes like name or TIN updates are verified and flagged for payer review when necessary.

6. Pre-Filing Lifecycle Improvements for Payers

The 1099 dashboard includes richer filtering, support for multi-entity workflows, and clearer indicators for TIN verification and payment thresholds. These updates give payers additional control and visibility before generating and filing forms.
