Terminology Update (February 2026)
We've updated Engagements terminology in Wingspan.
What's Changing (and Why?)
We've updated terminology in Wingspan to make your workflow clearer and easier to manage. There is no change in the functionality, simply an enhancement to naming.
Quick Reference
| Old term | New term | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Engagement | The project or scope of work (e.g., "Property Inspections" or “Treatment Program”) | |
| Assignment | A contractor's active participation in an engagement. |
Why We're Making This Change
The old terminology created confusion:
- "Engagement" meant two different things depending on context
- "Engagement Type" was technical jargon that didn't clearly communicate purpose
- This made it harder to understand your contractor setup at a glance
The new terms are more intuitive:
- Engagement = the work itself (like "Property Inspections" or "Treatment Program")
- Assignment = connecting a contractor to that work
- Think: A contractor receives an Assignment for Engagement ABC
What This Means for You
Where you'll see changes:
- Contractor profiles now show "Assignments" instead of
"Engagements" or "Contractor engagements" - The main configuration area now lists "Engagements" (not
"Engagement Types") - Dropdowns and forms will use "Assignment" when selecting contractor-specific relationships, such as “Add assignment” flows.
What stays the same:
- All your existing configurations and functionality remain intact
- No action required – just new labels for the same functionality
- Your contractors' work logs, payments, and requirements are unaffected
